Yellow Rose of TexasYou Gotta Sing

A campfire without a song would just be a pile of burning wood. In the woods with no tv or radio, songs and skits are our entertainment. Whether you need a silly song to wake everyone up or something more calming before lights out, you'll find a broad selection in the songs here. Many of them have the tunes so you can practice before giving it a go. If you have each camper group prepare one campfire song to lead, everyone gets to lead, participate, and share the experience. Be ready to sing some popular ones many times - youth don't get tired of a silly song once it gets started.

Campfire Songs

When you are first starting to sing with a new group, they may be shy, especially with new songs. But, as they get used to the tune and memorize the words, they will sing louder and longer if they like it. If a song doesn't go over well the first time, try it again but then drop it and try another if it flops twice.
I know there are other silly campfire songs out there, but I'm having a hard time finding any I don't have. If you remember an old favorite or a new one you just learned, please send it my way - or as much of it as you can remember. Just remember that campfire songs don't need to sound good, just loud.
